Tribhuvan
University Institute of Medicine (IOM) was established
in 1972 with the responsibility of training all categories
of health workers in the country. Its primary
goal has been train primary health care workers as well
as tertiary care workers including specialists. From
the time of its establishment, there has been changes,
both quantitatively and qualitatively, according the
medical needs of the country.

Objectives of IOM (at the time of establishment)
Develop undergraduate and postgraduate level of human
resources for health.
Undertake scientific research in the field of health
sciences.
Provide curative, rehabilitative, promotional and preventive
health care services.
Activate continuing medical education for health professionals.
Provide training for certificate-level health personnel
(no longer present).
